(Beginning and intermediate Electric and Acoustic)

Hi everyone, I'm Mike Rogers, a member of the Classic Axe Guitar Gallery instructor group. Here's a little bit about my background:
I've enjoyed playing the guitar, both acoustic and electric, since the early '60s. Throughout high school and college I played lead and rhythm guitar in rock bands(also a jazz ensemble). After 28 years traveling the world in the U.S. Army, I retired in 2000, giving me time to pursue my music passion (teaching, writing, and performing).
For the past several years I have been a volunteer guitar teacher at the Boys and Girls Club in Manassas and the Joe Gibbs Youth For Tomorrow in Bristow. This volunteer work is on behalf of the charity, "Guitars Not Guns".
I've also been a member of my church's praise band for several years giving me an opportunity to play for a"captive audience" of 1200 every month or so.
As far as teaching methodology is concerned, I believe in a team approach (parents and teacher) when is comes to teaching children. The day following a lesson parents will receive an e-mail from me explaining what we covered and went well; what areas need improvement, what we'll cover next time, and practice tips. Adult students also receive a detailed e-mail 24hours following a lesson.
I continue to write and record songs. My first album, "Laid Back" was nominated during the 1st round Grammy for the 2008 Best Alternative Album of the Year.
If you are new to the guitar or have been playing for a while, I can get you where you want to be. I teach at the Guitar Gallery Thursday and Saturdays. See a member of the staff and sign up for lessons today.
